1)  Q Do students & Faculty have access to the school's wireless network?
A

Yes, students and faculty have access to the school's wireless network. From the wireless network you will be able to access the Internet through the school's proxy server. A proxy server is a device that controls access and filters inappropriate information. Users will also be able to print documents to a printer in the library.

The school's Authorized Use Policy must be followed all users of the wireless network.

2)  Q How do I get access to the wireless network?
A

You will need to send an email to helpdesk@sandiaprep.org from your Sandia Prep email account.

  • The email needs to include the following information:
  • Your Full Name:
  • Your Sandiaprep Username:
  • Your Sandiaprep Password:
  • Your Computer Name
  • The MAC Address of your computer's wireless adapter:

An email will be sent indicating that your wireless network account has been activated.

3)  Q What is the Authorized Use Policy?
A

The Authorized Use Policy (AUP) is a set of rules that students and teachers follow while using any of the school's network resources. Click here to download the current AUP.

4)  Q How do I find my computer name?
A

For a Windows computer running Windows XP:

  1. Click the "Start" button in usually the lower left corner of your computer.
  2. Right click on "My Computer"
  3. Select "Properties"
  4. Click the "Computer Name" Tab

Your computer name is the after "Full Computer name"


For an Apple computer running OS 10.x:

  1. Click "System Preferences" from the Apple menu
  2. Click "Sharing"
  3. Your computer name is in the box at the top labeled computer name.
5)  Q How do I find the MAC address for my wireless adapter?
A

Your computer may have more than one network adapter.  It is important to identify the correct adpater.

For an Windows computer running Windows XP:

  1. Click the "Start" Button.
  2. Click and click "Run"
  3. Type "cmd" then enter (A black console window will appear)
  4. Type "ipconfig /all"
  5. A bunch of stuff will display.  Make th ewindow larger to see all of it.
  6. Look for "Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:"
  7. The MAC address are the series of numbers next to "Physical Address" (Click the picture Below to see an example.)

  1. Click "Sytem Preferences" From the Apple menu
  2. Click "Network"
  3. Click select "Airport"
  4. Click "advanced" in the lower left corner.
  5. Click "Ethernet"
  6. The MAC Address is the "Ethernet ID"

 

6)  Q How do I know my laptop has been added to the wireless network?
A
An email will be sent to your Sandia Prep email account that will indicate that your computer and your account has been authorized to use the wireless network.
7)  Q How long will it take for my computer and account to be added to the wireless network?
A
The IT department will add your account and computer to the wireless network within two school days.
8)  Q How do I print from my wireless laptop?
A
